Melia
MARIE ÉMILIE "MELIA" CÔTÉ
(1873-1954)
Marie-Émilie, “Melia” was born and baptised on the same day, June 13, 1873. She was the eldest in a family of nine, born to Arcade Côté and Marie Terrien.
Émilie Côté was born in Saint-Apollinaire, Lotbinière, This is where the major link in our line with the Boissonneault/Côté meet. Both can be traced back to Jean Côté (dit-Costé), the first of the family to arrive on the shores of Isle d’Orleans in 1634. There are also several links between the Arcade Côté generation and the François-Xavier Boissonneault families securing solid family ties.
Melia, the eldest of the family, married Napoléon, and her uncle Louis Remi married Napoléon’s aunt Marie-Vitaline Boissonneault (both from the same line). Also, one of Melia and Napoléon’s children was raised by Melia’s youngest sister Alma and Ludger Roy.
Émilie or “Mélia” as she was known to the family, was the mother of fourteen children.
Mélia died at age eighty-one, August 11, 1954, and is buried alongside her husband and several of the children in Saint-Flavien, Lotbinière, Québec.
NOTE: This line continues through the Napoleon Boissonneault connection, with some repetition.
