JOSEPH GEORGE CÔTÉ 1811-1892
Geneviève Rondeau, daughter of Jean-Baptiste and Geneviève Marion, was in the cold winter month of February on the 22nd day of 1779, in Saint-Antoine. She was the 3X great granddaughter of Thomas Rondeau and Andrée Rémondiere. This would have made Jacques Côté and his wife Madeleine (Rondeau) his great-great aunt and uncle. She was the second daughter of three girls, one boy and two half brothers.
Joseph George, son of Pierre and Genevieve Rondeau, was born according to researchers sometime between 1811 and 1816. He seems to be my elusive Côté at the moment. According to one researcher who believes he was born in 1811, he also had a twin brother Pierre. I could find a brother not mentioned by anyone by the name of Antoine, born in 1814. Could this be George and they entered the name Antoine in error?
It would seem likely that Joseph was born in Saint-Antoine, although there are some who believe he was born on Isle d’Orléans. Would Genevieve have gone there to visit relatives while she was pregnant and given birth while on the island? It is possible.
Joseph married Marceline Chauret in 1841, and between them and 1856, they would have eight children. The 1871 census has the family living in a wood-frame house and they list Joseph as a farmer. His age is sixty and Marceline is fifty-six. Marceline died a few years later.
After the death of Marceline, Joseph remained on the farm but turned over the head position to his son, Augustin. We can find him living with him and his family in Saint-Antoine in the 1881 census. Joseph appears in the 1891 census but dies one year later, August 25, 1892, in Saint-Antoine.
