MAN WITH OXEN - HORATIO WALKER
ANTOINE AUGER 1744-1817
Antoine was the second youngest son of François and Françoise (Maillot). He was born in Deschaillons-sur-Saint-Laurent, (the Tanguay Dictionary identifies it as Saint-Jean-Deschaillons, Québec) sometime around 1744, the actual record cannot be found.
He is not to be confused with another brother born in 1739 with the same name. That brother, Antoine (Toussaint) died at two years of age in 1741. It should be noted that many families named a child after one who had previously died. Perhaps to keep the name of an ancestor in their line.
On the 3rd of February 1766, Antoine married Marguerite Baudet (Beaudet) in Saint-Louis-de-Lotbinière, Québec. One year later they had their first child M-Marguerite, followed by nine more; Antoine, Jean-Baptiste, Louis Victor, M-Catherine, Joseph, Etienne, M-Ursule, M-Euphrosine and Marie Reine.
Antoine remained in Deschaillons-sur-Saint-Laurent and died May 25th 1817 in his seventy-second year.
