MONFET(TE) MARIE-ÉMILIE (1828-1897)

I found a birth record for Émilie Monfet as follows; Marie Émilie Monfette, born June 2, 1827, was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Monfette and Therese Baron. She was born in Sainte-Croix, Lotbinière, Québec, and appears to be the third child of four. Once I found her, I got caught up and followed the family back to her 4x great grandfather Pierre Maufay (1632-1677). This is an excellent example of how a name can change over the generations and how it barely resembles the original. Emilie’s name is documented as (Maufet(te), Maufet(e), Maufait, Monfet(te), Moffet(te), Moffit) and so on, making it difficult to research..

She married François Côté the 20th of January, 1845 in the village of Sainte-Croix and the couple remained in the area (specifically what is now St-Flavien) to farm the land.

The couple had nine children during their marriage of fifty-two years. Emilie preceded the death of her husband François by six years. She died in St-Flavien April 1, 1897.
