GENEVIEVE GAUTIER (1747-1806)

            ​​​​Genevieve Gauthier daughter of Jean-Baptiste et Catherine Hubert was born October 13, 1747,in Saint-Croix, Lotbinière. She came from a family of seven children.

            ​​When Genevieve married Louis, she was almost half his age, at twenty-two. His position in the community would have made him desirable and her parents would have considered the marriage a good one, despite his age. The wedding took place October 6, 1769 in Saint-Croix, Lotbinière. She was only three years older than Louis’ oldest living child, Jean-Charles, born in 1750. There is a good possibility that Louis hired her to take care of the widower’s infant children and she became his wife.

            ​​​​Genevieve and Louis had five children during their marriage.

            ​​Louis died when their youngest child was four years old and the oldest was twenty-two. This girl would have had children around her whole life. First, from his previous marriage and then her own.

            ​​Genevieve died April 2, 1806 at age fifty-nine, her youngest barely fifteen. Hopefully, the blended family would have cared for her youngest, as she had done for Louis. ​​
