MARIE ​​AUGER (1891-1974)

Marie Auger, born into a farming family April 21, 1891, in St. Edouard, Lotbinière, Québec. She was the daughter of Joseph and  Élise (Lemay). The 1901 Canadian Census lists the family living in St. Edouard, with Joseph farming and the couple have eight children ranging in age from fourteen to four months of age. Marie was nine at the time and the first girl in the family of six boys and two girls.

If one is persistent, it usually pays off. My original search for the Auger family in the 1911 census came up empty. I searched for Joseph, Elise, and all the children, but to no avail. Deciding they had to be there somewhere as Marie got married in St. Edouard to Pierre Côté the on the 7th of  October 1919, I tried a few tricks. When I checked to see if the document was available, I found there were two sub-districts for St. Edouard. Using the numbers instead of the name of the subdistrict, I searched for names starting with A*. There; they identified them under the name of Anger, instead of Auger. The family had grown by two more girls. There was also a boy born in 1888 who died two years later. The total number of children would then be eleven.

Marie moved with her new husband to St. Flavien, once married, and over their lifetime together raised five girls and one boy.Marie Auger died September 14, 1974, in Québec. I have yet to vet this detail.
