MARCELLINE CHAURET (1815-1879)
Marcelline, daughter of Antoine Chauret and Marie-Josephte (Croteau), was born in Sainte-Croix, Lotbiniere, March 31, 1815. Her maiden name varies sometimes (Charest, Charet, Charrette, Chauret, Chaurette). As a neighbouring village to Saint-Antoine de Tilly, most of the people would have known one another and often, related. Marcelline’s family, like so many in the Lotbinière area, landed on the shores of Isle d’Orléans when they first arrived on the ships from La Rochelle, in France. Her family first settled in St. Pierre, the same village as the ancestors of Joseph Côté, when they arrived in “Nouvelle France”.
The couple married the 12th of January 1841, in the church in Sainte-Croix, Lotbiniere. The couple gave birth to nine children during their thirty-eight years together.
Marceline died in Saint-Antoine on the 3rd of January 1879, at sixty-three. Joseph outlived her by thirteen years.
