ADELE BÉDARD (1857-1934)

When Joseph’s first wife died, he was only in his mid-forties. Left with six, possibly seven children under thirteen, he would have needed someone to care for them.

Pierre Bedard and his wife Constance Sevigny were neighbours from a nearby farm. In fact, Joseph’s older brother Telesphore was married to Adèle’s older sister, DesNeiges. His older sister Tarsile was also married to Pierre Bédard’s son, Barthélemy.

It is quite possible that Adéle, born on February 23rd, 1856, a spinster of thirty would have been asked to care for the children after the death of Aurélie in 1885. Whatever the case, she would become the caregiver to Joseph’s children when she became his wife.

They married in St. Flavien, September 21st, 1891, in St. Flavien.

Over the course of their twenty-five years of marriage, Adèle gave birth to three children. She would see them reach adulthood, as would Joseph. When he died in 1926, Adèle lived for another eight years.

She died at seventy-seven years of age in St. Flavien, May 11, 1934.
