AURÉLIE LAMONTAGNE (1853 -1885)

Aurélie Lamontagne was the daughter of Basile and Angelique (D’egme Lallemand Daigle). Born in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, November 7th 1847, she was one of a family of thirteen children, ten girls and three boys.

Being midway between the births, her responsibilities would have been to care for some of her younger siblings and take orders from her elders. She would have been given responsibilities at a young age as a farm girl.

Aurélie met Joseph Côté and they married January 10th, 1871, in her home village of Saint-Antoine.

During the next thirteen years, Aurélie gave birth to four boys and three girls. Sadly, she died at age thirty-eight, three days after the birth of her youngest child, Marie-Louise, on October 19th, 1885, in Saint-Antoine.

It mentions in her registration death that her husband was not present. Was he away on work to supplement the income of the farm? Men often left for periods of time to earn more money elsewhere, leaving the farm in the hands of the wife and children.

Her daughter Marie-Louise probably died at the time of her birth or shortly after as she is not present in the census of 1891 and when Joseph remarries, he and his second wife name their first girl Marie-Louise.
