M-MADELEINE MAROTTE DIT LABONTÉ (1773-1861)

I have finally proved with certainty the birth of Charles’ second wife Marie-Madeleine Marotte in a difficult but not impossible to read the copy of her baptism. According to her marriage to Charles, she was the daughter of Joseph Marotte dit Labonté and Marie-Angèlique (Croteau). She was born in November 1783, in Saint-Antoine de Tilly, Lotbinière, Québec. I could find the marriage of Marie’s parents in 1775 where her father appears as Joseph Marot (Meros). The writing in this entry is also difficult to decipher.

â€‹â€‹She and Jean-Charles married in Saint-Antoine de Tilly January 11, 1813,(2) and they had two, possibly three, children.

After the death of Charles, Marie continued to live with in St-Antoine-de-Tilly until her death.

I found Marie’s death by searching through the census. She was living with her daughter Adelaide in 1852, but not present in the 1861 census. I went back to the Drouin Collection and found she had died March 20, 1861,(3)  before they gathered information for the 1961 census.
