MARIE-FRANÇOISE DAIGLE (1716-1755)
Marie-Françoise Daigle was of Austrian heritage. Her grandfather was Jean Daigre or Degma, from Vienna, but the name became Daigle after their arrival in New France, before 1688.
They dedicated the original habitants to their religion. The French were all Roman Catholic and the pressure upon anyone living in New France would have been substantial. This was perhaps the reason the Jean Daigre from Vienna, Austria abjured from his Lutheran religion to become a Roman Catholic.
Françoise was born to parents Andre Daigle (Lallemand) and Therese (Proulx) the 11th of November 1716,(1) in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly.
Françoise and Jacques married April 24, 1747,(2) in the village of Saint-Antoine and had five children over the next seven years.
Complications of childbirth cut her life short. Françoise died the 28th of May 1755,(3) at age thirty-nine when their only surviving child, Charles, was just a small boy.
