William McEwen Jr, first son of William McKewn and Elizabeth Mendenhall. According to Geneanet he was born in 1780 in Londonderry, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom (1) or Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (2). His enlistment papers in the 26th Foot (Scottish Rifles) Regiment in 4 Oct 1799 name Scotland as his place of birth as Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
It appears his life would be spent in Londonderry or nearby.
William was married twice and had a multitude of children. His first wife was Elizabeth Graham 1786–1810, daughter of Thomas Graham 1761–1846 and Elizabeth Dobbin 1763–1844. She was born June 5 1786, Presbyterian, Boardmills, Down, Northern Ireland. (1)
All the children were born in Northern Ireland but several moved to other parts of the globe
The couple would have five children during their marriage as follows” Andrew McEwen 1801–1854, (Mississippi, USA),John McEwen 1805–1892, (Calton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland),William McEwen 1807–1887,(Baltimore, Ontario, Canada), James McEwen 1809–1881,(Paisley Abbey, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland) and Henry McEwen 1809– ,(County Down, Ireland).
William’s second marriage was to Martha Craig 1781–1842. This marriage took place in 1812, Londonderry, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom according to much of the research. I have not proof of this as yet.
This marriage would produce eight children, which contain a well known McEwan who settled in the USA.
