JOSEPH MCKEOWN (1815 - 1850) married ANNE FRAZER (1811-1882)

          Joseph was John and Eliza’s second child was born in Aghalee, Antrim, Northern Ireland,  July 2, 1815. He married Anne Frazer about 1835 and sired the following children: Thomas (1836 - 1867), William John (1837- 1879), Joseph (1839 _ ), Mary Ann (1841 - ), Eliza (1843 - ), Joseph (1845 - 1912) and Sarah Jane (1948 - 1914). Joseph died in 1850 in Magheramesk, Antrim, Ireland, but Anne lived for 32 more years supporting her family by working as a domestic servant. At some point, she moved to England to live with her daughter, Eliza Graham, and her family. She can be found in the 1881 English census; a widow, living with her daughter Eliza in Cumberland, Hensingham, England. The census notes that she was a domestic servant in Ireland but has recently lost her sight. She is seventy-three at the time of the census. Anne died the following year, 3 Jul 1882, at 15 Keekle Terrace, Hensingham, Cumberland, England.

       

DEBORAH MCKEOWN (1819 - )

         Deborah was born in October 1819, in Aghalee, Antrim, Northern Ireland.

 

JOHN MCKEOWN (1828 - ?)

        Many years ago, I found my second great-grandfather in the 1841 Scottish Census with his wife, Mary Brown. They were on the verge of settling in Toronto after crossing the ocean.. There are several families living in the same dwelling in Glasgow, among them a boy by the name of John McEwan. I believe this to be William McEwan’s younger brother, John. John was born in 1826 Magheramesk, Antrim, Northern Ireland. In the census, they give him an estimated birth date of 1829. I believe he also moved to Toronto at the same time as William and settled there. The book “Toronto in the 1850s” lists Duke Street St. South side Jno McKeown at 157 and Wm McKeown at 161. We know William to be our ancestor. This would be sound proof that John is his younger brother. Our knowledge of John is incomplete. Did he ever marry and have children? I found a death for a John McKeown in 1905 at Providence house at eighty-one and listed as a widower, died from bronchitis & emphysema. Could this be William’s brother? Again, more investigation is needed to find more about the family.
