AUGER JOSEPH 1857 -1929
Joseph, the only one to carry on this line of the Auger's was the middle son of Cléophas Auger and Tarsile Blanchet. Born in Lotbinière, he was baptized at Saint-Louis October 20, 1857(1).
Joseph learned loss early in his life. Losing two sisters and his only two brothers while he was still a teenager would have been difficult. His father died as well when he was in his early twenties which probably left him feeling responsible for his widowed mother.
The families that lived on the 5th and 6th concessions on what was once the Parrish of Saint-Louis found the six mile treck to church weary some and would ask that a new church be granted to them. In 1858 they began construction of this church, and so began a new parish of Saint-Édouard. The growth in the area was notable and the same year of Joseph's father's death a new concession made the parish even bigger.
In 1881 the Canadian census has Joseph living with his recently widowed mother and two sisters Éveline (Olivine) and Marie-Jeanne. Olivine is listed at a teacher. Marie is just fifteen.
In 1891 Joseph can be found with his family of two boys, Joseph and Thomas, his wife Élise and his mother Tharsile. Joseph occupation is as a farmer. The following census has Tersil living with her daughter Éveline who is now married and living
Joseph married Élise Lemay four years after the death of his father, on the 16th of November 1885(2). They were married in Saint-Édouard where the family resided.
One year to the day they welcomed their first offspring named in honour of his father. Joseph junior was followed by ten others; Égide, Thomas, Marie, M-Alma, Henri, Émile, Isidore, Cléophas, M-Anna and Yvonne.
Joseph lived to be almost seventy-three years of age and died the 8th of September 1929,(3) in his hometown of Saint-Edouard.
